A Freo Institution

Since 1897, the Fremantle Markets have been the beating heart of Freo's weekend culture. Located in a heritage-listed building on the corner of South Terrace and Henderson Street, the markets draw thousands of visitors every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The atmosphere is a mix of bustling energy and laid-back Freo charm — buskers play at the entrance, the smell of fresh produce fills the halls, and you're never more than a few steps from something delicious.

What to Eat

  • The Organic Collective — Fresh-pressed juices and smoothie bowls. The acai bowl is legendary.
  • Turkish Gozleme — Handmade to order with spinach and cheese. Queue is always worth it.
  • Fremantle Fudge — Over 30 flavours of hand-made fudge. The salted caramel is a must-try.
  • Kailis Fish Market Cafe — Just outside the markets, grab fish and chips and eat by the harbour.

Beyond the Food

The markets are split into two main areas. The Hall houses fresh produce, artisan goods, and local crafts. The Yard is more eclectic — vintage clothing, handmade jewellery, and quirky souvenirs.

Don't miss the record stalls tucked in the back of the hall — perfect for vinyl collectors. And if you're visiting with kids, there's usually face painting and live music to keep them entertained.

Getting There

The Fremantle Line train drops you a 5-minute walk away at Fremantle Station. If driving, parking can be tricky on weekends — arrive before 10am or use the free CAT bus from the Esplanade.

Markets are open Friday 8am–8pm, Saturday 8am–6pm, Sunday 8am–6pm. For updates, check the official Fremantle Markets website.
