Why Kings Park Is Unmissable
Covering over 400 hectares of bushland and manicured gardens, Kings Park and Botanic Garden is larger than New York's Central Park. Perched on the edge of the CBD overlooking the Swan River, it offers some of the best views in the city.
Whether you have an hour or a full day, there's a walk for you.
The Best Walking Trails
Lotterywest Federation Walkway
This 620-metre elevated walkway takes you through the tree canopy of the eucalyptus forest. It's fully accessible and offers stunning views of the Swan River and South Perth. Allow 20-30 minutes for a relaxed stroll.
DNA Tower Trail
The iconic double-helix staircase is a must-climb. At 15 metres tall, it rewards you with 360-degree views of the park and city. The surrounding lawns are perfect for a picnic afterwards.
Bushland Nature Trail
For something more rugged, the bushland trails on the western side of the park wind through native vegetation. In spring (September-November), the wildflower displays are spectacular — over 3,000 species of Western Australian flora call this park home.
Practical Tips
- Getting there: Free CAT bus from the CBD, or drive and park in the main car park off Fraser Avenue
- Best time: Early morning for fewer crowds, or sunset for golden-hour views
- Water: Bring a bottle — there are drinking fountains near the main facilities but not on bushland trails
- Dogs: Allowed on-leash in most areas, off-leash in designated zones
