A Perth pastry lover is building a ranked list of the city's almond croissants, and r/perth has delivered a long list of bakeries to try.
The original poster said Harvest and Maison St Honore were their current top two, and admitted a controversial habit: asking for croissants to be heated, because they're "almost always not crunchy enough anywhere in Perth".
The bakeries Perth recommends
Suggestions from more than 30 comments included:
- Chu – "still king" for one user, for its flaky layers and almond paste
- Miller & Baker – "the only answer", according to another
- La Galette – multiple votes, though one regular says the croissant has shrunk lately
- Teeter Bakery – tipped by two users, one suggesting fans are keeping it quiet
- Pelican Croissanterie, Common Bakery (Nedlands and Fremantle), Goods Bakery in Leederville and Mary Street Bakery in West Leederville
- Little French Nest in Fremantle (sells out fast), Hush on High Street, Pear Tree in Hamilton Hill and Tammy's in Victoria Park
- Last Crumb in Bassendean, Sugar and Nice in Inglewood and French Resistance in Northbridge, where one user says the owner insists on heating croissants properly
Further afield, Gugelhupf in Yallingup got a mention.

The great custard debate
The thread also sparked a filling fight. Several users insisted a proper almond croissant needs almond frangipane, with one calling custard a cost-cutting shortcut, while others said a custard and almond paste blend "works surprisingly well".
