Transperth turns its famous bus-seat pattern into a Yagan Square ad

The colourful fish-and-starfish fabric every Perth commuter knows is now glowing on Yagan Square's giant screen, and Reddit loves it.

If you've caught a Transperth bus, you've sat on it: the busy, bright pattern of fish, shells, starfish and squiggles on a dark background. Now that fabric is glowing several storeys high in the middle of the city.

A photo posted to Perth Reddit this week shows the round digital screen at Yagan Square wrapped in the pattern, with Transperth and Public Transport Authority logos at the bottom. The post quickly became one of the most upvoted on the subreddit for the day.

"Brand recognition unlocked"

Commenters were won over straight away. "One of the best ads I've ever seen," wrote one. Others replied "Perfection", "Beautiful" and "Brand recognition unlocked". One user joked the ad was a "sleeper cell activation" for anyone who has spent years staring at the seat in front on the way to work, and another said they wanted the design on a shirt.

The bag that finishes every look.

Some handbags carry your things. A Gucci carries your whole look. Supple leather, signature detail and Italian craft that turns an outfit into an entrance.

The pattern is one of the most recognisable bits of Perth design, even if most people have never thought about who drew it. It has been on Transperth seats for years, and it seems to hide crumbs and coffee stains well. Turning it into a giant ad is a cheeky move from an agency more often in the news for timetable changes.

The screen

The cylindrical digital tower is one of Yagan Square's best-known features. It sits next to Perth Busport and the city's main train station, so it's a fitting spot for a public transport ad. The PTA hasn't said how long the ad will run, so if you want to see it, keep an eye out next time you walk through the square.
