Verge thieves and junk mail top Perth's Friday gripes

Stolen pumpkins, ignored 'no junk mail' signs, phone zombies and unruly dogs: Perth locals let off steam at the end of the week.

It was a glorious sunny Friday in Perth on 30 October 2026, and locals marked it the traditional way: by listing everything that annoyed them this week. Someone pinching things from front yards topped the list.

Hands off the verge

One parent's entire complaint was a single line about whoever stole their child's Halloween pumpkin. Others had lost plants from verge gardens, two decorative logs (the council green-waste crew were the prime suspects), and $20 worth of straps tied down outside a workplace.

New York. The city you already know by heart.

Walk the Brooklyn Bridge, gaze up at the skyscrapers, feel the energy of every block. New York is the bucket-list city that lives up to every bit of the hype.

'No junk mail' means no junk mail

Real estate agents stuffing flyers into letterboxes clearly marked "no junk mail" got plenty of attention, especially with Perth's property market cooling. Tips included a "no real estate" sticker, and one person leaves an open box under the letterbox where the flyers can rot "in full view".

Phones, dogs and utes

People walking along staring at their phones without ever looking up were another big one. So were dog owners who don't manage their dogs at the park, or let them off the lead where leads are required, and drivers of big utes who can't park between the lines.

A tow truck driver on the Kwinana Freeway who pulled out across traffic, then had to stop because the parking brake was still on, also earned a mention. And the person who started it all paid an old school friend $65 to polish their resume, only to get back what they called AI-written corporate filler that turned "trades assistant" into jargon.
