Spending Christmas in Perth without family nearby? A Victorian couple flying in for 24 to 31 December asked locals where to book a Christmas Day lunch that isn't a carvery and is worth the money, and Perth had opinions.
Where to book
- Epicurean at Crown Perth: the most recommended. Locals say it has more choice, nicer decor, and staff who walk diners with dietary needs through what they can eat.
- Atrium at Crown Perth: the cheaper Crown option. One local warned that on a hot day the sun through the glass roof can be uncomfortable at lunch.
- Hotel lunches: many city hotels run Christmas Day functions. Locals pointed to the DoubleTree by Hilton on the waterfront and in Northbridge, and The Duxton.
- Esplanade Hotel Fremantle also got a mention.
Book early: popular Christmas Day sittings fill up weeks ahead.

Or do it the Perth way
Plenty of locals said the best Perth Christmas skips the restaurant altogether. Head to the beach in the morning with champagne and nibbles: Cottesloe, Leighton, Port Beach and South Fremantle all draw crowds of locals doing the same.

Another said a roast chook from the supermarket and a day at the beach is "winning at life". And if you'd rather share the day with people, locals said "orphans' Christmas" groups on Facebook connect people without family nearby with Perth households who open their homes.
