The Malgana people are the traditional owners of the Shark Bay (Gathaagudu) area, a UNESCO World Heritage site. "Gathaagudu" means "two waters" in Malgana, referring to the two large bays that make up the region, and Malgana rangers now work alongside scientists to manage the country's globally significant seagrass meadows and dugong populations.
