The Miriwoong people are the traditional owners of the country around Kununurra and Lake Argyle in the East Kimberley. The Miriwoong language is critically endangered, but the Mirima Dawang Woorlab-gerring Language and Culture Centre in Kununurra has been working since the 1970s to revitalise it through teaching, recordings and seasonal calendars.
