The Gija people are the traditional owners of country in the East Kimberley, around the Bungle Bungle Range (Purnululu) and the Ord River. The Gija are world-renowned for their ochre paintings, and were central to the founding of the Warmun Art Centre, which has produced acclaimed artists like Rover Thomas and Queenie McKenzie.
